Artist’s Biography | : | M. Shariff, born Shariff bin Awang in Ipoh, Perak in 1951, was a Malaysian musician best known as the founder and lead of The Zurah II. He started the band as The Zurah in 1967 before moving to Kuala Lumpur and adopting the new name. Renowned for his unique blend of Malay and Hindustani musical styles, he was one of the earliest local artists to adapt Hindi songs into Malay and even studied music in India under the famous composer duo Shankar-Jaikishan. |
